First Published: 25th September, 2023 12:47 IST

The helicopter fare from Churachandpur to Aizawl will be Rs 4,500, while the return fare to Churachandpur via Lengpui Airport will be Rs 6,000

The Manipur government made an announcement on Sunday regarding the launch of a helicopter service that will connect Churachandpur district with Aizawl, Mizoram. The service, known as Heli Service, is part of an initiative for northeastern states supported by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, according to a statement from the Manipur transport department.

The service’s launch will operate from the Imphal International Airport, formerly known as Tulihal International Airport, depending on the weather conditions. It will connect with the Maulpui helipad in Aizawl, which is situated in the southern part of Aizawl.

Wing Commander Joe Lalhmingliana, the principal consultant of the Mizoram civil aviation department, mentioned that detailed information about the service had not yet been provided by the Manipur government. While Manipur proposed two flights a week, Mizoram suggested five weekly flights but has not received a response on this matter.

He further explained that a video conferencing meeting between the chief secretaries of both states had taken place earlier, aiming to share service details between the governments. However, the Manipur transport department has not yet issued helicopter tickets and boarding passes. There has also been no official communication regarding the departure and arrival times in Churachandpur and Aizawl, which is crucial for making ground staff arrangements at the Mualpui helipad.

As per Lairenlakpam’s statement, the helicopter fare from Churachandpur to Aizawl will be Rs 4,500, while the return fare to Churachandpur via Lengpui airport will be Rs 6,000. It is to mention that the return flight via Lengpui airport is necessary for refueling, as refueling facilities are only available at the Mizoram airport.
