Close on the heels of the multi-crore scam surrounding the Loktak Lake in Manipur, the largest natural freshwater body of northeast India is again in the limelight.
The Central Government has approved Rs 400 crore for cleaning solid waste particles from the sprawling lake and another Rs 100 crore for cleaning its source, the Nambul River is almost clogged which flows through the heart of Imphal city.
The people of the State are elated at the latest measures being undertaken by both the State and the Central Governments to resuscitate both the primary water bodies of Manipur.
