Bizzare phenomena from Manipur’s Kangpokpi, flames emanate from ground

After reports of flames emanating from beneath the ground were reported from Kangchup Makhom village under Kangpokpi district in Manipur, District Administration visited the village to inspect the spot.

Local villagers informed that the flames were first sighted on March 13 and the fire has been continuously burning since.

Locals are also apprehensive that over 3000 Banana trees worth over Rs 3 lakhs annually will be affected if necessary actions are not taken in time.

Speaking to the media, SDO Kangchup Geljang, T Opendro Singh said that it is presumably a biomass ignition, emitting at various locations in banana farms at Kangchup Makhom village vicinity.

He also added that a vast area of the farm has been affected, and he will be forwarding a detailed report to a higher authority and necessary action will be initiated.
