Manipur Elections: Allegedly denied voting rights, Wabagai voters rush to Thoubal DC’s office

Incidents of poll-related discrepancies are being reported from Manipur as polling for Phase 2 takes place today. In  Thoubal, a number of first-time voters among others were seen queuing up outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office after allegedly being denied voting rights.

Talking to Northeast Live, some of the voters claimed that they were compelled to leave the Keirak Kangjeibung polling station under Wabagai Assembly constituency after a polling agent allegedly snatched their voters’ slips.

Voting for the 2nd Phase of the Manipur elections began at 7 am. As the second and final phase of voting in the state slowly draws to a close, a sizeable voters’ turnout has been registered in the 6 electoral districts of Thoubal, Senapati, Chandel, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Jiribam.

The voters’ turnout was 67.77% till 3 PM with Senapati
registering the highest voting percentage of 74.02%. followed by Chandel at 70.3%, Ukhrul at 67.99%, Jiribam at 67.80%, Thoubal at 67.17%, and Tamenglong 57.81%.
