Manipur CM Biren Singh hands over machinery to farmers, distributes financial aid to handicraft artisans

In a big boost to the agriculture sector in Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday distributed agricultural machineries and equipment to farmers under the Sub-Mission of Agriculture Mechanization (SMAM) scheme in a ceremony held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal.
In addition, a financial aid of Rs. 10,000 through direct benefit transfer was distributed to handicraft artisans for buying tool kits under the North Eastern Region Textiles Promotion scheme.
A total of 3000 handicraft artisans will be provided financial assistance to buy tool kits, of which 1500 will be benefited in the first phase and the remaining in the second phase.
The event was organised by the Department of Agriculture and Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles of Manipur. Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi, Power Minister Thongam Bishwarjit among other eminent personalities were present at the ceremony.
“Immensely glad to distribute financial assistance for handicrafts tool kits under North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme to 1500 handicrafts artisans through DBT, and Agriculture Machineries & Equipments under SMAM Scheme to farmers of different districts today,” CM Biren Singh tweeted after the ceremony.
Addressing the event, CM N Biren Singh said that agriculture is an important sector which has largely contributed to the economy of the Country. As such the State government had taken up certain measures to save agricultural land with coordination among various departments.
