After a dark Diwali, muted Christmas, a low-key New Year celebration was witnessed in parts of the strife-torn Manipur which has witnessed months of unrest this year.
Unlike previous years, this year, Kangpokpi district of Manipur witnessed a very low-key New Year celebrations.
Unlike the previous years, there were no New Year decorations, no merriment, no feasting and fellowship events like lenkhom, and dancing during this New Year celebration, rather the celebration wore dim and doleful looks.
A short morning and evening worship were held in Kangpokpi, where a mass special prayer was the main highlight of the event.
A special event was organized at Kangpokpi Christian Church, wherein a Bible verse was set aside for each individual, and each person was chosen at random to receive a verse that would serve as a guide and a leader for the upcoming year.
Earlier, a group of individuals arranged a midnight cake-cutting ceremony to bid farewell to 2023 and welcome 2024.
