As the polls dates of the Manipur Assembly Elections gets closer the Election Commission is taking special care for its smooth conduct. As part of such efforts, nearly 60 percent of licensed arms in poll-bound Manipur have been deposited with district authorities so far. Moreover to check the pre-poll violence in the state a total of 25 Companies of Central Armed Forces have been deployed in various vulnerable areas.

Addressing the Media in Imphal, Manipur CEO Rajesh Agrawal said, out of 25,299 registered license arms, 15,240 have been deposited with the respective Deputy Commissioners, which is 58.65 percent of the total numbers. He also added, with the election code of Conduct, the Commission in various raids has been able to seize a total of Rs 50 lakhs in cash, Liquor worth Rs 14 Lakhs, Drugs worth Rs 26.558 Crore and Gold worth Rs 1.41Crore.

Meanwhile responding to a query regarding on the demands for postponement of the 1st Phase of elections scheduled on Sunday 27th February by tribal CSOs, the CEO informed that the recommendation has been forwarded to ECI and now the sole decision depends on the ECI. He also added the ECI announced the dates after considering various aspects.
