Bokajan in Assam is facing elephant menace for about a month now.
A herd of 6-7 elephants have been creating havoc in the region, especially around the villages of Ghorial Dubi, Ghatipul and Fulbari under the Bokajan police station.
The herd has been plundering farms and houses alike in the region. While the local people have already informed the forest authorities regarding their plight, but so far no step has been taken in this regard.
On the other hand, people in Assam’s Goalpara district were greeted by elephants early in the morning at the National Highway No 37.
A herd of elephants blocked the road while crossing it at the highway stretch near Agia. While jumbos managed to stop the traffic on the highway for sometime, people had a good time watching the pachyderms cross the road.
It is to be noted that elephant herds often cross the National Highway to enter the forest from the nearby Urpad lake.
