LS polls 2024: Retd police officer Lalbiakzama is Cong candidate for lone Mizoram seat

Congress today announced the name of Lalbiakzama as its candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram.

Lalbiakzama is a retired Mizoram Police Officer who joined the Mizoram Police Service in 1988.

He had served as the President of Mizoram Police Service Association thrice till his retirement.

Lalbiakzama became the first Home Secretary among the Mizoram Police Service in 2012.

He also led several tripartite talks between Mizoram and Tripura governments and the Centre for the repatriation of Brus from Tripura.

He also played a pivotal role as Team Leader in the peace talk between the Mizoram government and the then insurgent group Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic), which finally led to the birth of the Sinlung Hills Council.

Lalbiakzama had also served as the Superintendent of Police of Lawngtlai, Serchhip and Aizawl.

He is among a few Mizoram police personnel who served in the United Nations Peace Keeping mission twice.

In July 1998, he served as one of the commanding officers at a Police Station in Tuzla, Bosnia.
