The names of the candidates will be decided by Congress high command, Pala said
It is going to be a tough job for the Congress high command as four Meghalaya Congress leaders have shown interest to contest for the Tura Parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Pala said, “Four names has been proposed to me by the Congress office bearers. We had a series of meetings with all our Congress leaders, MLAs and office bearers. We have been working on finalizing the names for candidates (for Lok Sabha polls).”
“Definitely Tura we will be contesting but to determine who will be the candidates I will be going to Garo hills on January 8 to get the feed from the ground”.
Asked when Congress is likely to name their candidates, Pala said, “Normally when the Election Commission announces the dates, then only the party declares their candidates but preparations have already started for the elections, so I hope this election will go better than the previous elections.”
Congress will contest both the seats but the names of candidates will ultimately be decided by the central high command, he added.
Congress won 5 seats in the Assembly elections held earlier this year for the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly.
