Lok Sabha Election-Assam: Union Min Sarbananda Sonowal campaigns in tea garden areas

During his campaign trail, Sonowal spoke to the voters and highlighted about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's welfare push for the tea community.
Former Assam Chief Minister, presently a minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet and BJP’s candidate for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency today reached out to the tea garden community in Duliajan legislative assembly constituency.
Sonowal spoke to the voters and highlighted about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s welfare push for the tea community. The Union Minister pointed out that it was the first time since independence that 12 lakh bank accounts have been opened for the tea garden workers in Assam.
Sonowal further stated that Narendra Modi has rolled out the Wage Compensation Scheme through which Rs 15000 is being given to the pregnant women tea garden workers, provision of Rs 8000 to over 7.5 lakh tea garden workers under the Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar Mela, setting up 200 Model Schools, all weather roads, introduction of Mobile Medical Units and ambulance services in the tea garden areas.
The Union Minister also mentioned about other steps being taken up for the further betterment of the tea garden community right from education to health and other associated aspects.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “You have seen the vibes, there is a positive vibe among the people. People are very much enlightened, people are very much happy, they are very spontaneously coming forward and encouraging us to go forward to carry forward the agenda of development for the people of Assam and people of the country.”
Asked about the BJP’s prospects in this election, Sonowal said,”Of course Assam is going to get majority of seats, we are targetting 12+ but it may exceed.”
While political parties are adopting different ways to woo the voters, popular Assamese singer Jitul Sonowal was seen belting out some of his popular numbers to drum up support for BJP candidate and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Sarbananda Sonowal is former Chief Minister of Assam (2016 to 2021). Presently he is the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways in the Narendra Modi cabinet. This year, Sonowal has replaced incumbent party MP and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment Rameswar Teli in the Dibrugarh seat. Teli had won the seat twice in 2014 and 2019.
