Lok Sabha By-Polls in Wayanad Tomorrow, Fate of Priyanka Gandhi and 15 Others to be Sealed

The fate of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi will be sealed tomorrow at the high-stakes Lok Sabha Bypolls in Wayanad, Kerala. This is Priyanka’s electoral debut as she is contesting elections for the first time.

She is contesting as her brother Rahul Gandhi vacated the seat after he won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha polls held earlier this year.

Wayanad goes to polls alongside 31 other assembly seats in various states.

The constituency which comprises seven assembly segments-Mananthavady, Sulthan Bathery, Kalpetta, Thiruvambady, Eranad, Nilambur, and Wandoor will witness an intense fight among the 16 candidates, including Gopal Swaroop Gandhi (Kisan Mazdoor Barojgar Sangh Party), Jayendra K. Rathod (Right to Recall Party), Sheikh Jalil (Navrang Congress Party), Duggirala Nageswara Rao (Jatiya Janaseva Party), A. Sita (Bahujan Dravid Party), C.Ajith Kumar (Independent), Ismail Sabiullah (Independent), A. Noor Mohammed (Independent), K. Padmarajan (Independent), R. Rajan (Independent), Rugmini (Independent), Santhosh Pulikkal (Independent), and Sonu Singh Yadav (Independent).

The Wayanad constituency, which is considered a stronghold of the United Democratic Front (UDF).

While, the Congress is hoping to retain the seat the CPI and BJP are both eager to break the Congress’s hold on this hill constituency, with both parties accusing Rahul of abandoning his constituency after his success in Rae Bareli.

Polling will begin at 7:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM across more than 1,000 polling booths spread across the constituency.
