Fear and apprehensions gripped the residents of Amtali locality in Agartala after a thick puff of lava-like smoke erupted from below the earth.

Panicking locals immediately informed the local police, fire department and ONGC about the development. After a lot of struggle, the emergency teams were able to bring the lava under control.

The incident was reported on May 15, while the residents of Amtali continue to be in a state of shock and panic.

It is not the first time that an incident as such has been reported from Tripura. Earlier, in December last year, volcanic lava like inflammable liquid was reported erupting from the ground in the State’s bordering Sabroom sub-division’s Jalifa village.

Tripura is highly vulnerable to earthquakes as it is located in seismic zone 5. Last year a total of 4 such incidents  of similar nature were reported from the Sabroom sub-division which is very close to Chittagong in Bangladesh.
