Aizawl: Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga writes to Union Minister Amit Shah expressing his dismay over the recent appointment of Renu Sarma as the chief secretary of the state. He complained Sarma cannot be an efficient chief secretary since she does not know the local language. Renu Sarma has been appointed as the chief secretary of Mizoram on October 28, 2021, and was asked to take charge from November 1.

Further, in his letter written on October 29 to Amit Shah, CM Zoramthanga requested the centre to appoint an additional chief secretary J C Ramthanga as the next chief secretary after the retirement of chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo.

CM Zoramthanga opined that most of the people in Mizoram, as well his colleagues do not understand Hindi and some of them have even problems with English. Given the circumstances, a chief secretary without having the Mizo language will be difficult as a chief secretary.

In the statement, CM Zoramthanga also pointed out that the successive governments at the centre both the UPA and NDA had never posted a chief secretary who does not know the Mizo language. CM Zoramthanga believes that he has been a faithful partner of the NDA and he deserves a special favour and consideration.
