The annexe building of the Tura Civil Hospital which is on the verge of collapsing owing to a massive landslide right behind the facility would be re-opened in the next 10 days after the safety of the building is restored, West Garo Hills DC Jagdish Chelani told Northeast Live.

DC Jagdish Chelani said, ” We are expecting that working in double shifts with the people we are seeing a timeline of 7-8 days for the completion of the project and for the block to be operational again. At most, this will take us around 10 days to complete the work.”

“Although the building is in a safe position, but we are not taking any risk and shifted the patients to another facility. We hope the situation will be better within a week,” he added.

As per inputs, the landslide that occurred on March 27, has damaged the retaining wall that is now posing a threat to the hospital building. The situation worsened after the cyclonic storm on Thursday and the current situation, despite the repairs being undertaken.

Worth mentioning here is that on March 27, the Medical Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital had written to the Chairman of the Disaster Management Authority urging the latter to take immediate action.
