The stage is all set for a floor test as the newly formed Janata Dal Secular–Congress coalition government in Karnataka under Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will face a trust vote today to prove majority in the Karnataka Assembly.
Karnataka witnessed the second swearing in ceremony of a Chief Minister within a week after BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa resigned opting out of a floor test in the Assembly.
The Assembly will conduct an election to pick a new speaker before the vote of confidence is tabled. The Congress has nominated former speaker KR Ramesh Kumar as its candidate, while the BJP has picked veteran legislator S Suresh Kumar.
The Congress and JD(S) have been keeping their respective MLAs together at different locations since May 16 in order to prevent them from being poached by the BJP. The MLAs of the two parties will return to their constituencies, following the Trust Vote.
