Improper management of waste in Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar has become a major health concern for residents in the state capital.
Waste materials from over 20 IMC wards across Banderdewa and Itanagar, which are being dumped at the lone dumping site in Chimpu has started emitting methane gas as well as hazardous toxic smoke when burnt.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Assistant Engineer, IMC Itanagar Division, Yumlam Tach, who is working as a Supervisor at the Dumping Zone Area informed that for past several days, the IMC have tried to control the toxic smoke generated from the dumping site but were unsuccessful in their attempts.
It needs to be mentioned here that since 2014, the Municipal Solid Waste plant in the state capital has been impractical, resulting in serious health threats for residents in the Capital Region.
