CM Sarma added that what is the guarantee that leaders like Bhupen Bora or even Debabrata Saikia will not join the BJP in the coming days.
Day after 2 Congress MLAs extended support to the BJP-led state government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma fired a fresh salvo on the party stating those pretending to be the gatekeepers of the Congress may also join the BJP tomorrow.
A confident CM Sarma added that what is the guarantee that leaders like Bhupen Bora or even Debabrata Saikia will not join the BJP in the coming days.
CM Sarma said, “I was 22 years with congress family, my relation with Congress leaders is much better than Rahul Gandhi that is why it’s better not to give any guarantee.”
He further said that this development comes after Rahul Gandhi asked the Congress MLAs to tear up and make it dysfunctional the state Assembly, on his way out of Assam with his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
On February 14, two MLAs – Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das have extended their support to the BJP.
Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Congress MLA from karimganj North resigned from the post of Working President of the party.
Basanta Das represents the Mangaldai constituency and had served as a minister in the third Tarun Gogoi Cabinet from 2011-16. He won the Mangaldai seat twice, in 2001 and in 2011 in a Congress ticket.
Sarma also took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi over his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Claiming that Rahul provoked Congress MLAs to disrupt the assembly, Himanta said that these MLAs are his `gift’ to the Gandhi scion.
