Along with the rest of the world, the region too celebrated International Women’s Day celebrated with pomp and gaiety on Monday.

Celebration was witnessed in Arunachal’s Bomdila, where an event was organized by the Area Level Federation under Department of Urban Development & Housing, Bomdila.

Speaking on the occasion, guest of honor Advocate Kamla Deewan elucidated on Domestic Violence Act, and other technicalities on legal procedures to protect women from exploitation.

Furthermore, Women’s Day celebrations were also seen at Rupa in the state’s West Kameng district. The day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by members of the Women’s Welfare Association (WWA).

On the occasion, chairperson of Women’s Welfare Association Pema Chom Thongdok urged women to rise up to every occasion and challenge, and not consider themselves weak and dominated.

Nagaland today observed International Women’s Day with the launch of Nagaland State Commission for Women Award in Kohima, under the theme “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” across the State.

The programme was jointly organised by the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW), Nagaland State Social Welfare Board and State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) under Social Welfare department.

Meanwhile in Assam, members of the Dibrugarh Ladies Club celebrated International Women’s Day by distributing essential commodities to students of ANBB School in Dibrugarh.

The all girls school which was established in 1912 has 265 students, mostly from financially weak backgrounds.

The members distributed necessary items such as Sanitizer Stands, Stainless steel plates, Bags, Water Bottles, Pencil Boxes, among others.

Every year International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide on March 8 to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe.

The theme for this year’s Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge, indicating that a “challenged world is an alert world, and from challenge comes change”.
