An International Conference on Biodiversity and Sustainable Development Goals was held at the state capital of Sikkim, Gangtok.
The event, held at the city’s Chintan Bhawan, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were environmental activist Dr Vandana Shiva and Bernward Geier from Germany.
While addressing the event, Chamling stated that there were several common features between the Sikkim government’s initiative and the Sustainable Development Goals set up by the United Nations.
The Chief Minister also said that the state government has undertaken measures for judicial use of biodiversity for sustainable development.
Chamling also added that the government has designed specific schemes to create payments for eco-system services and necessary incentives.
