The construction of the India-Bangladesh border fence has once again been brought to a halt in Tripura’s Durgapur border.
It has been done so due to objection from residents of border area. Construction work of the fence started on May 6th this year and it is to be noted that the work was resumed after 12 years as it was also stopped 12 years ago.
Residents demand that the work should be stopped until their demands are fulfilled. Citing this problem they have made it clear that they want compensation not only for the place where the construction of the barbed wire fencing is going on, but also demand compensation for the space used outside the fencing.
Traffickers used open borders in the area for trade of illegal drugs and products. And some of the locals think that those protesting against the construction of the fence are the same people who traffic drugs.
