India’s Omicron cases tally has crossed the 700 mark leading to fresh restrictions in multiple states and union territories.

Currently, India’s Omicron tally stands at 717 cases.

Yesterday the country saw an increase in 46 Omicron cases which has led to the present tally.

Fresh cases have come in from 20 states of which the highest number of cases have come in from Delhi 23 cases. Tamil Nadu has reported 11 cases, Telangana has reported seven cases and Gujarat has reported five cases.

Meanwhile, amid rising cases of Covid-19 and Omicron variant, the Delhi government has issued a yellow alert under the Graded Response Action Plan.

This was announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a high-level review meeting on the Covid situation.

Under the new order, schools, cinema halls and gyms will remain shut in the capital with immediate effect. Spas, banquet halls, auditoriums and sports complexes will also remain closed.

Meanwhile, Shops in malls will be allowed to operate on an odd-even basis from 10 am to 8 pm as per the order.

Delhi Metro, restaurants and bars will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity.

Along with Metro, buses will also be operating at 50% of seating capacity. Both in the Metro and buses, no standing passengers will be allowed.

The Delhi positivity rate has been hovering above 0.5% for the past two days.

It may be mentioned that a night curfew is already in place in the national capital.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 6,358 new covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours.
Ahead of the January 10 rollout of Covid-19 shots for teens, the Union Health Ministry has announced that Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin will be the only vaccine that will be administered to eligible recipients in the age group of 15-18 years.

The ministry also announced on Monday that the three priority groups of healthcare workers, frontline workers, and individuals older than 60 can receive their third “precautionary dose” 39 weeks after getting their second jab.

With Omicron threat looming over the festive season, Kerala became the latest state to impose a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 pm starting from December 30 till January 2.
