Police recovered over 20 kg of heroin from a vehicle that had entered the state from Mizoram
In the biggest-ever drug haul, the Assam Police seized a huge quantity of drugs with a market value of Rs 210 crore and arrested one person in connection with the case in Silchar in Cachar district.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police headed by IGP STF Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Cachar Police SP Numal Mahatta conducted a search operation in the Sayedpur area near the Assam-Mizoram border yesterday night.
During the operation, the joint team intercepted a vehicle. On checking the vehicle thoroughly, the team recovered over 20 kg of heroin.
The estimated market value of the seized drugs is said to be Rs 210 crore.
The vehicle had entered the state from Mizoram and was heading towards West Bengal, said Police.
Police have also arrested the driver of the vehicle identified as Laldinuwa.
An investigation into the case is underway to crack the supply grid.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X and lauded the efforts of Assam Police and said, “₹𝟐𝟏𝟎𝐜𝐫- 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐌’𝐒 𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐑𝐔𝐆𝐒 𝐇𝐀𝐔𝐋.
