Protestors are adamant and said that complete withdrawal of the blockade will take place when the machineries reach the site and actual repair work begin

Eight days after blocking the Imphal-Andro road demanding immediate repair of the bad road, residents and members of the All Kongba Road United Clubs’ Organisation today decided to relax the bandh and allow the movement of two-wheelers and light motor vehicles after Manipur PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam assured the residents that machineries for the repair works will be dispatched by 31st July.

However, protestors are adamant and said that complete withdrawal of the blockade will take place when the machineries reach the site and actual repair work begin.

Earlier today, protesting residents met PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam at his official residence in Imphal.

The crucial Imphal-Andro road has been in a very bad condition for the last 3-4 years. The road connects 4 assembly constituencies with over 50,000 residents dependent on it for their livelihood. Locals have been protesting, blocking the vital road for over a week now.

Earlier yesterday, protesters shut the power supply to the Manipur secretariat for almost 2 hours following which local MLA Th Biswajit rushed to meet the protesting residents and set up a meeting with PWD Minister Govindas today to get their demands addressed.
