ILP in Sikkim: Bhaichung’s letter to CM Tamang

Clamour for implementation of ILP gets louder in Sikkim. HSP president Bhaichung Bhutia sends letter to Chief Minister PS Tamang, expressing people's concern on the issue.

The Hamro Sikkim Party has shot off a letter to Chief Minister PS Tamang on the ILP issue. In the letter, the Hamro Sikkim Party led by Bhaichung Bhutia has urged upon the state government to hold a special seating of the legislative assembly and pass a resolution to implement ILP in the state and forward the demand to the Centre.

The Hamro Sikkim Party also apprised the Chief Minister in it’s memo about the resolution adopted by various stakeholders in the Jan Sansad, demanding that the Centre as well as the state government must act promptly and implement ILP in the Himalayan state.

The demand for bringing the Himalayan state under the ambit of the ILP has gained momentum with every passing day. The Opposition Hamro Sikkim Party is leaving no stone unturned to put pressure on the government.

It was on October 16, when the HSP led by Bhaichung Bhutia organized a Jan Sansad or People’s Parliament to deliberate on the issue. The Jan Sansad adopted the following resolutions: (1) The Inner-Line Permit must be implemented in Sikkim without any delay. (2) The Government of Sikkim pass a Resolution to Implement the ILP in Sikkim and send it to the central government for further action. (3) The central government should implement the ILP in Sikkim at the earliest.

Speaking to Northeast Live on Sunday, Bhaichung Bhutia had said that the issue of implementing ILP in Sikkim is concerned with the security of the state as well as the entire nation. Besides, Bhutia highlighting the significance of ILP said it will help in preserving the identity and culture of the state.
