Illegal Infiltration Foiled at Tripura Railway Station: 4 Bangladeshis and Trafficker Arrested

First Published: 6th March, 2025 9:22 IST

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had crossed into Indian territory through the Shingicherra area in Khowai district.

In a fresh case of illegal infiltration, four Bangladeshi nationals and an alleged trafficker were apprehended during a routine security check by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Border Security Force (BSF) at Teliamura railway station in Tripura’s Khowai district on Wednesday.

The arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Dhirendra Biswas (60), Ankit Biswas (19), Mikon Biswas (18), and Sathi Biswas (18). Along with them, Bhanu Sarkar (54), an Indian tout from Silchar, Assam, was also taken into custody for allegedly facilitating their illegal entry.

Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura GRP, Intu Marak, confirmed the detention, stating that the individuals, all from Habiganj in Bangladesh, had illegally entered India without valid documents. They were supposed to be en- route to Kumarghat on a train from Agartala to Silchar when security personnel, acting on suspicion, detained them at around 12 PM.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had crossed into Indian territory through the Shingicherra area in Khowai district around 2 AM on Wednesday. Their intended destination was Kumarghat, where they planned to visit a relative.

Following their arrest, they were produced before the Khowai court later in the evening.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over frequent illegal crossings along the India-Bangladesh border, raising questions about border security and surveillance measures.
