In view of the rampant illegal transportation of coal from Meghalaya and the state losing revenue, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) along with district heads conducted a surprise check and seized two illegal coal laden trucks along Dainadubi-Nongalbibra road in Meghalaya on Thursday.
The checking was conducted by NCP leader Saleng Sangma, Additional Superintendent of Police of North Garo Hills, officer-in-charge of Directorate of Mineral Resources, among others.
Member of the Legislative Assembly from Gambegre constituency, Saleng Sangma said police had seized two coal-laden trucks without proper challan and FIRs has been filed against them.
He said that there are several other areas in Meghalaya where rampant illegal transportation of coal takes place and said that curbing the illegal transportation of coal would help the state in revenue generation.
Sangma stressed that he will continue to conduct such surprise checks in the near future.
