Horse Race Event Begins as Part of Manipur’s Sangai Festival

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday flagged off horse race Marjing Polo Ground in Imphal east's Heingang area.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday flagged off horse race Marjing Polo Ground in Imphal east’s Heingang area as the much popular Sangai Festival entered the 5th day today.

Marjing Polo Ground is also one of the festival venue, out of the 13 locations spread across 6 districts in the hills and valleys of the state.

Horse race and throwing of Arambai (ancestors war weapon) has been the highlights at the Marjing Polo Ground.

This year a lot of activities including Manipur Pony can be witnessed in different locations. Manipur Polo International and 1st Chief Minister Sagol Kangjei is also taking place in Imphal as part of the festival.

CM N Biren Singh said, “The idea is to popularize Polo and also to let the young generation know about the important roles played by Pony since time immemorial”.

Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 which was inaugurated by G Kishan Reddy, Union minister of Tourism at Moirang-Khunou on November 21 will continue till November 30.
