Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday reached out to the influential All Assam Students Union (AASU) over opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

The Union Home Minister said all issues relating to the contentious bill can be resolved through dialogue and consultation.

The Home Minister telephoned AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya this afternoon and deliberated on the opposition in Assam and the rest of Northeast over the bill.

Bhattacharya told Rajnath Singh that the bill would directly violate the provisions of the Assam Accord and therefore would go against the interest of the state and its indigenous people.

The AASU chief adviser categorically told the union home minister that the Centre should rethink its move to pass the   Citizenship Bill.
