First Published: 25th November, 2024 14:42 IST
Senior officials from the Tinsukia Railway Division and other divisions have rushed to the site to assist with the operations.
Intense search operations are underway to trace and rescue the Principal Chief Safety Officer of Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR), Suvenda Choudhary, who is missing since November 24 after being swept away by the strong currents of the Lohit River near Parshuram Kund, a revered pilgrimage site in Arunachal Pradesh.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Sunday while Choudhary was taking a dip in the river. Rescue efforts are being carried out relentlessly by teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Aerial search operations have also been launched to locate the missing official.
Senior officials from the Tinsukia Railway Division and other divisions have rushed to the site to assist with the operations.
According to sources, Choudhary had travelled with his wife from the NFR headquarters in Maligaon, Guwahati, to Tinsukia for an inspection visit on November 22. The couple then visited Pasighat and Dambuk before reaching Parshuram Kund on Sunday.
Speaking to Northeast Live, CPRO, NF Railways Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said, “The search operations are continuing, with a focus now on the downstream areas. The location around Parsuram Kund has already been thoroughly covered by helicopters from the Indian Army, along with teams from the SDRF and local police. Although no findings have been reported so far, the teams are expanding their efforts, covering a larger area downstream. In the past, we have observed that because of the strong current, people go as far as 25 kilometers, so we are extending our search to greater distances. Despite not having discovered any significant clues or items yet, we remain hopeful that something will turn up as the search continues.”
