HM Shah assures talks with TIPRA Motha on ‘Greater Tipraland’ soon: Pradyot Debbarma

Debbarma accompanied by nine Tipra Motha leaders met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Saturday

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that the central government will soon start the process of discussions on the demands for Greater Tipraland, Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA Motha) Chairman Pradyot Debbarma said after a 9-member TIPRA Motha delegation led by him met the Union Home Minister.

After the meeting, Pradyot Debbarma said, “Our agenda is very clear on a constitutional solution for the demand of Greater Tipraland. He is aware of the issue, but today we met him with all our leaders. We have made it very clear that we are interested in solving the genuine problems of the indigenous people. We want it to be done quickly as too much time has gone, people are getting restless and so we need an early ending.”

Currently, the entire focus of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has been concentrated on Manipur due to the ongoing unrest in that state.

The delegation that met the Union Home Minister in New Delhi yesterday evening, urged him to bring a “Constitutional solution” to its demand for “Greater Tipraland” as quickly as possible as too much time has lapsed already.

The issue of Greater Tipraland has been a long pending one and was the key poll plank of TIPRA Motha on the basis of which the new political party of Tripura fought the Assembly elections held earlier this year and won 13 of the 60 seats becoming the main Opposition party of Tripura.

Earlier, there were talks of retired IPS officer and interlocutor for Naga peace talks, AK Mishra would arrive in Tripura and start the dialogue with Tipra Motha regarding its demand for Greater Tipraland and tribal rights of the indigenous people of Tripura. But this is yet to happen.
