Historic Adivasi Accord to be signed; 1200 cadres from 8 outfits to join mainstream

The historic Adivasi Accord will be signed at 5 pm in New Delhi today. The signing ceremony is set to take place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in North Block.

As per inputs, the signing of the Accord will pave way for the formation of a welfare council for the Adivasi community of Assam. Apart from this, a socio-economic development package will also be released for the overall welfare of the Adivasi community.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be leaving for New Delhi today for the signing ceremony.

Apart from the Assam CM, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur, MPs Pallab Lochan Das and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Assam cabinet minister Sanjay Kishan and other government officials would be attending the signing ceremony in New Delhi from the Assam side.

Advisor Northeast AK Mishra, Director Intelligence Bureau, and other senior officials will also be present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said with the signing of the accord with Adivasi outfits will ensure that almost all outfits barring those from Dima Hasao are in the mainstream.

It may be mentioned that the process to sign the Adivasi accord gained momentum in the last 6 months when the Assam govt officials assisted by Adviser Northeast AK Mishra had several rounds of discussions with Adivasi militant groups leading to the accord.

Among the Advasi outfits set to sign the accords are the Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam, Birsa Commando Force, Adivasi People’s army, All Assam Adivasi National Army, Santhal tiger force, and three breakaway groups.

Around 1200 cadres will join the mainstream as part of the agreement.
