Assam is witnessing hectic campaigning with BJP’s chief strategist Himanta Biswa Sarma addressing 5 rallies on Monday as countdown begins for second phase of polling in 39 seats. During his election campaign from Diphu to Barhampur, Sarma launched direct attack on his rival candidates.

Kicking off the day’s campaign from Bokoliaghat in Karbi Anglong for the Diphu Assembly seat, Sarma trained guns at former BJP leader and minister Sum Ronghang who is contesting on Congress ticket.

Sarma accused Ronghang of grabbing public property including land for sports association and a bus stand.

He also exuded confidence that the BJP will win all 4 seats in Karbi Anglong and the lone seat in Dima Hasao.

Meanwhile, at a time when the Congress is trying to make a poll issue out of the AGP denying ticket to party veteran Prafulla Kumar Mahanta in Barhampur, Sarma while addressing a rally in the constituency made a direct attack on Congress candidate Suresh Bora accusing him of being a puppet of AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and Congress leader Rockybul Hussain.

It may be mentioned that the AGP has given Mahanta’s bastion to ally BJP this time with Jitu Goswami contesting from the seat.

The senior leader also made a sarcastic attack on AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal even as he mocked the Congress’ 5 guarantees in the Barhampur rally.

Sarma continued his tirade against the Congress-AIUDF combine in his rallies in Raha and Kamalpur even as he reiterated the BJP’s promise of providing 1 lakh government jobs within a year besides giving scooties to girl students.

The second phase of polls is crucial for the BJP with the party eying over 10 seats in Barak valley and a clean sweep in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. It will also be a battle of prestige for the BJP in Barhampur where Prafulla Mahanta has been denied ticket by the AGP.
