A headmaster of a government-run high school in Manipur’s Kakching district was suspended for not providing mid-day meals under PM-POSHAN Scheme properly to the students. The teacher in question identified as Azad Khan, the head of Sora High School, was unable to provide the relevant documents relating to the distribution of mid- day meals and the students under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme now renamed as PM-POSHAN scheme

On December 6, a team of officials of the state education (school) department visited the government-run high school to take first hand stock of the implementation of the scheme in the school.
The team conducted spot enquiry based on reports of non-provision of mid-day meals to students under the PM-POSHAN scheme. When officials enquired from the students, they also responded that they were not served with meals regularly but only occasionally.

Director L Nandakumar of education (s) placed the headmaster under suspension based on the findings submitted to him by the official team. The director suspended him in exercise of power conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules 1965.

“In exercise of power conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 10 of Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules 1965, Azad Khan, EIN 064213, Pry. Teacher, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect,” the suspension order said.

A disciplinary proceeding against Azad Khan is also being contemplated relating to mismanagement of PM-POSHAN Scheme, erstwhile Mid-Day Meal scheme, at Sora High School.

The headmaster is restricted from leaving the headquarters without obtaining prior permission, the director stated in the order that placed him under suspension.
