The incident occurred around 5:30 AM in the Ningthemkhunou locality of Ningthembam village. Reports indicate that the few gunmen forcibly entered a home and shot an elderly man dead. His wife and daughter escaped unharmed.
Narrating the horrific incident, the wife of the deceased man said, “I was in the kitchen preparing breakfast while my daughter was sweeping the courtyard. Suddenly, three gunmen came, they stopped us outside before entering the house and shooting my husband dead in his bed”.
Soon, villagers retaliated and a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, lasting approximately one hour at Rashidpur areas which lies between Nungchapi (Ningthemkhunou) and Seijang villages killing 8 more people.
As tension escalates in the region, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
