Heroin worth Rs 25.57 cr seized in Mizoram, biggest drug haul so far

In one of the biggest drug haul in a single day so far in Mizoram, a team of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department and Assam Rifles seized over 5 kg of heroin from near Saichal village in Saitual district of Mizoram bordering Manipur on Friday.

Officials said that 7 persons, including 4 from Tripura were arrested in the joint operation.

The contraband was concealed in 436 soap cases and hidden in the backside of the seats of two vehicles, bearing Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura registration numbers.

Interrogation of the 2 suspects and further investigation by the Excise and Narcotics department resulted in the arrest of Lalngilneii (44) and Zoramchuana (49), both natives of Hnahlan village in Champhai District bordering Myanmar, Vungkhanthawma (23) of Champhai town, Amir Hussain (31) resident of Madhya Boxanagar, Boxanagar District, Tripura and Sukanta Karmakar (35) resident of Champak Nagar, Jirania District, Tripura were arrested.

Since violence broke out in Manipur in May this year, Mizoram has become the favourite route for the drug cartel in the region.
