In a news that is certain to bring cheer to those associated with the tourism sector of the Northeast, the 9th edition of the weeklong India Week being observed in Hamburg Germany will specially promote Northeast India as a tourist destination.
Day-long special events showcasing India’s Northeast are being earmarked for November 11.
The biennial event is one of Hamburg’s cultural highlights, with 72 events encompassing yoga, poetry, politics, culture, and sports over the course of the week.
The week-long expo began with a glittering inaugural ceremony at the iconic 150-year-old Senate Hall of Hamburg. The German Ambassador to India, Walther J. Linder, spoke at the beginning of the event. Rachita Bhandari, India’s Deputy Chief of Mission, lauded ZEITO’s efforts in organising the event and specifically emphasised the northeast’s tourism potential.
John H Ruolngul, India’s Consul General in Hamburg, also expressing his optimism said “It’s a pleasure to welcome Summer Salt, a band from Shillong, Meghalaya. I thank Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, for sending an excellent band from the northeast. Not only will the band perform at the event, but it will also perform at a special promotion event on November 11. Following that, on November 17, they will perform at Hard Rock Café in Hamburg”.
A number of satellites events related to the biennial event being held in Berlin, Hanova, and Lubek. Speaking about the event, Khafiluz Zaman Ahmed from Assam, currently based in Denmark, who is the curator of the program said “Northeast is an unexplored paradise and it is a privilege for the Northeast to be highlighted at the international event.
The India week is organised every two years, and this year’s Northeast has been given the center stage at this showcase event.
