Guwahati Water Crisis: Private water tankers hikes rates

First Published: 10th September, 2022 18:50 IST

It is to be mentioned that disruption of GMC water supply is not frequent in the areas like Fatasil, Kumarpara, Chandmari, Silpukhuri, Zoo Road, etc.

As many parts of Guwahati are seen battling the water crisis, and taking advantage of the situation private water tankers have hiked the rates of water.

Unscrupulous private water suppliers in Guwahati have hiked the rates by over 100% leaving consumers with no option as the GMC has failed to resume the supply of household tap water even after months of disruption.

Residents in many parts of the city are seen standing in the queue with buckets carrying water from GMC tankers in such scorching heat and the quantity too hardly meets the daily requirement.

Under the circumstances, the All India Professionals’ Congress has made an appeal to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to stop the GMC water supply of MLA Hostel and Ministers Colony for three days and avail the water from GMC water tankers.

It is to be mentioned that disruption of GMC water supply is not frequent in the areas like Fatasil, Kumarpara, Chandmari, Silpukhuri, Zoo Road, etc.

Residents have alleged that the GMC officials cite technical or mechanical snags for the disruptions and do not address prime issues such as service by the line supervisors or excess commissioning of pipelines from the reservoir.
