Earlier yesterday, the Assam Police have busted a major interstate vehicle theft racket in Guwahati, arresting 11 individuals involved in stealing and smuggling high-end motorcycles and cars. The gang, primarily from Manipur, was infamous for executing swift thefts, stealing motorcycles in an anywhere between just 28-45 seconds.

The gang, primarily from Manipur, was notorious for its swift operations, stealing bikes in under a minute. Authorities recovered 13 stolen motorcycles, 12 of which were Royal Enfield Bullets. Additionally, three stolen cars including two Mahindra Thar SUVs and a Mahindra Scorpio were recovered.

A key breakthrough came with the arrest of Assam-based linkman Inamul Hussain from Goalpara. Hussain played a vital role in transferring stolen bikes to the Manipur-based gang. Two other individuals linked to the transportation of stolen vehicles were also arrested.

The gang’s strategy involved travelling by flight to Guwahati, where they would stay for four to five days before executing thefts. A young woman was also found to be part of the syndicate.

“They just do this within 45 seconds, and this case is special because the thefts targeted the same brand of bike — Bullet,” said a police official.

Authorities have assured that investigations are ongoing to trace any additional stolen vehicles and curb such criminal activities in the region.
