Amid reports of grenade blasts in at least three locations of Assam in two months, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that such incidents hurt the image of the state.
“Everyone should understand, specially Paresh Barua (chief of ULFA-I) that such actions hurts the image of the state. Throwing 2-3 grenades won’t succeed in making Assam independent but will hurt the image of the state. Assam has taken massive strides in development recently, there has been talks about massive investment in the state, but these actions drags the state backwards. ”

We hope to come to an agreement with the pro-talk faction of ULFA towards the end of the year or early next year, after that the government will make an effort to start talks with ULFA (I)”.
