The Chief Minister also said that there has been reports of some ULFA members entering Assam with hand grenades
Amid reports of grenade blasts in at least three locations of Assam in two months, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that such incidents hurt the image of the state.
“Everyone should understand, specially Paresh Barua (chief of ULFA-I) that such actions hurts the image of the state. Throwing 2-3 grenades won’t succeed in making Assam independent but will hurt the image of the state. Assam has taken massive strides in development recently, there has been talks about massive investment in the state, but these actions drags the state backwards. ”
CM Sarma said this in New Delhi after his meeting with Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka.
The Chief Minister also said that there has been reports of some ULFA members entering Assam with hand grenades, some of them have also surrendered before the police.

Mentioning about the government’s plans to sign a peace deal with the pro-talk faction of ULFA, the CM said, “A draft of the peace deal is almost ready and requires only a few final touches. We hope to come to an agreement with the pro-talk faction of ULFA towards the end of the year or early next year, after that the government will make an effort to start talks with ULFA (I)”.
The (ULFA-I) today claimed responsibility for the bomb blast that occured near Army camp in Assam’s Jorhat district last night.
