Team Great Britain defeated team United States by a score of 5-2 in the finals of the 5th Manipur Statehood Day Women’s Polo Tournament, India’s only Women’s International Polo Tournament
Team Great Britain defeated team United States by a score of 5-2 in the finals of the 5th Manipur Statehood Day Women’s Polo Tournament, India’s only Women’s International Polo Tournament held at the historic Mapal Kanjeibung or Polo Ground in Imphal.
Organised by the Manipur Tourism Department, the 5-day long tournament began from January 17 and 6 teams from 5 countries clashed for the coveted title with Manipur’s own unique equine known as ‘Pony’.
The inaugural match of the tournament saw Team India (Manipur) take on Team Egypt who made their debut in the game of Polo for the first time in the history of Women’s Polo.
Besides lifting the trophy, winners Great Britain were awarded a cash prize of Rs 60,000 while runners-up United States walked away with a cash prize of Rs 40,000.
