The Meghalaya government on Wednesday made it clear that it is not in a position to increase the salary of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers as of now. The SSA teachers had given a deadline to the government till February 18 to fulfill their demands.

Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui said that the demands of teachers are genuine and they are examining the matter.

Making it clear that the government is not in a position to increase the salary of the teachers as of now, he also said that he is awaiting the necessary reports from the department.

On February 9, 2021, a memorandum submitted to the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui called for the implementation of the salary structure and enhance the salary of the SSA teachers in Meghalaya.

Reacting to a query about the government’s plans of closing down the schools with very less students, Rymbui said that the process had already started but it was affected due to the covid pandemic.
