GMC’s anti-rabies vaccination drive for stray dogs in Guwahati Street dog menace is a matter of concern in each city and Guwahati is not an exception.

On an average 20 dog bite cases are reported daily in the city and anti-rabies vaccination is the only solution to it keeping the fact that rabies caused by dog bite is always fatal.

The free moving dog or the stray dog population in Guwahati is increasing each year so is the concern of dog bites and rabies. To tackle the menace of transmission of rabies and to control the population of street dogs the Guwahati Municipal Corporation in association with a city base NGO titled Just Be Friendly has been carrying out Anti Rabies Vaccination and sterilization drive of street dogs since 2009. According to data provided by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation since 2014 till date, a total of 22,197 street dogs have been administered Anti Rabies Vaccination and 22,716 dogs were sterilized.
