Around 36 hours after fresh skirmishes were reported near the Assam-Mizoram border in Hailakandi district, a high-level team from Assam headed by Inspector General of police Anurag Agarwal visited the spot and inspected the overall security situation.

Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha and SP Gaurav Upadhyay were also part of the delegation that inspected the border area early this morning.

According to the Assam police, the incident took place when three suspicious miscreants, dressed in black battle fatigues, approached the border from the Mizoram side at around 2 am on Tuesday morning.

However, the Mizoram side had a slightly different version of the story, with top officials claiming that the Assam police had fired upon 3 civilians who had gone near the Assam border to collect meat from a friend.
