Naga People’s Front MLA, YM Konyak, was inducted as a Minister in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) coalition government in Nagaland today.

YM Konyak who is also a two-time member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) took his oath as the Forest Minister of Nagaland in the presence of Governor Jagdish Mukhi.

The decision to include an NPF MLA in the Neiphiu Rio cabinet was taken during the first joint parliamentary meeting of the UDA comprising of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), NPF, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held yesterday.

It may be mentioned that one ministerial berth had fallen vacant after the demise of Chongsen Mongkosungkum Chang, who was the forest minister on October 12, 2020.

The development comes days after the Naga Peoples Front reached out to the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s NDPP to merge with it.

It may be mentioned that NPF leader and former chief minister TR Zeliang was appointed as the Chairman of the United Democratic Alliance yesterday.

On the merger, Zeliang informed NPF has openly invited NDPP, but the party is yet to decide. therefore NPF is waiting for the response.
