Assam has been hit by floods in various parts of the state. Incessant rains in the Karbi hills have caused deluge of rain water to flow into the plains causing the National Highway to be closed by the authorities. Four SDRF rescue boats have been deployed in the area and arrangements are being made to set up relief camps to accommodate the affected people.
The huge floods in Mizoram have also affected neighbouring Karimganj district as the Longei river’s strong currents have damaged Patharkandi embankment resulting in heavy floods that have submerged over 40 villages. Communications have been hit in the area as a result of heavy flooding.
Meanwhile, heavy floods have also affected the people in Hailakandi district. The torrential currents of the Katakhal river has submerged about 21 villages. The wave of flood waters flowing in from Mizoram has also added to the rise in the level of the rivers in Hailakandi district. The affected people have been forced to take shelter along the embankments in such a scenario.
Bokakhat in Assam’s Golaghat district too is under the grip of floods due to the heavy rains in Karbi Hills district.
