Voting is underway across 16 administrative districts of Assam, as close to 1 crore people are exercising their franchise in the first phase of panchayat polls today.

The electorate are casting votes in a total of 14,077 polling stations across these districts.

The voting which started at 7am is slated to continue till 3pm and even beyond if required.

Voting has been by and large peaceful except for few stray incidents of violence reported from a few parts of the administrative districts where polling is underway.

Out of the total 14,077 stations, 1799 have been bracketed as very sensitive while another 5162 are listed as sensitive.

Over 70,000 polling officials have been engaged in the voting process today for smooth conduct of elections.
