Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday tabled the Economic Survey 2020 in Parliament.
The Economic Survey projected India’s economic growth at 6 per cent to 6.5 per cent in the next financial year starting April 1, saying growth has bottomed out.
Survey also said intervention by the government, though well-intended, often ends up undermining the ability of markets to create wealth and leads to outcomes that are the opposite of the intentions.
According to the survey, around 2.62 crore new jobs were created in rural and urban areas between 2011 and 2018 among regular wage and salaried employees.
The government has also estimated GDP expansion at 5 per cent for the current financial year ending on March 31.
