Arms & ammunition recovered following encounter with suspected NSCN-IM rebels in Arunachal

In what has come as a breakthrough security forces have recovered a HK series rifle along with 40 rounds of live ammunition during the ongoing operation against suspected NSCN (IM) militants at Kapu village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh this morning.

Reports are also rife that a suspected NSCN (IM) cadre may have been injured during the heavy gun battle which broke out last evening.

Meanwhile, security forces in neighbouring Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh have also been put on alert.

Top security officials are monitoring the operation and choppers are being used for aerial surveillance of the area.

It may be mentioned that the encounter was launched around 6 pm yesterday when security forces and Tirap Police received inputs about movement of around 12-15 cadres, suspected to be of the NSCN (IM), in the area.

An operation was launched immediately and a gun battle followed.

As per inputs, The 6 Assam Rifles which is conducting the operation along with the Tirap Police had called in for reinforcements and cordoned off the area so that the rebels cannot sneak out of the location which is around 25 kms from Khonsa, the district headquarters of Tirap district.

All possible entry and exit points have also been sealed by the security forces.

As per reports, around 12 to 15 militants who had recently entered Arunachal Pradesh from Nagaland are held up in the area.
