Eight Cadres of Two Banned Outfits Arrested in Manipur

In a separate operation, two active members of the G5 Organization were apprehended in Imphal East District for extorting money from truck drivers.

At least eight individuals belonging to two proscribed outfits were arrested from Manipur’s Imphal West and Imphal East districts, police said on Saturday.

Six cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Ibungo Ngangom) were apprehended from Koutruk Makha Leikai Church at Koutruk Makha Leikai under Lamsang police station in Imphal West District on Friday.

The arrested KCP (Ibungo Ngangom) members were identified as Shirimayum Suraj Sharma (24), Mutum Leishemba (25), Ningthoukhongjam Khedasana (29), Senjam Yaiphaba (19), Laishram Leishemba (26) and Laishram Kenedy (32).

In a separate operation, two active members of the G5 Organization were apprehended in Imphal East District for extorting money from truck drivers transporting sand in the Sekmai, Irilbung, Koirengei, and Patsoi areas.

On Thursday, Manipur Police arrested as many as 16 active cadres of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), KCP (City Meitei), and the United National Liberation Front (P) and recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and other valuables from their possession.

According to official sources, the arrested individuals were involved in various subversive activities, including extortion, recruitment, and planning of attacks on security forces.

Following Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s big appeal for an end to hostilities and the surrender of illegal arms in seven days, security forces, based on inputs and tip-offs from local sources, launched a series of coordinated operations and made these arrests from different parts of the state including Bishnupur, Kakching, and Imphal East districts.
